Welcome Back to Christ's School
Dear Parent/Carer
It is with great pleasure that I write to you to welcome in the start of the new academic year. I hope you have all enjoyed a lovely summer and a well-deserved rest. For those of you who are new to Christ’s, I extend my warmest welcome. Visitors often comment on the special atmosphere they feel as they enter our school, and I hope that soon you, both parents and students, will feel very much at home here.
In this year’s public exams we were delighted with our overall performance and the many success stories for our individual students.
In a year of great change with GCSE reforms, Year 11 certainly rose to the challenge. Overall they made good progress, and we were thrilled to see our pupils achieve a record number of A*/ new grade 8/9 grades in our GCSE results, indeed 30% of all grades achieved by year 11 were A*/A, or 9-7 in the new English and Maths GCSEs.
Stand-out individual achievements included 9A*/A Grades for Molly Taylor, 8 for Sabrina Robinson, and 7 for Stephen Frank, who also achieved the remarkable feat of the extremely challenging grade 9 in both English and Maths. We are also particularly thrilled to welcome back the vast majority of our top achievers into our Sixth Form this week.
The Sixth Form A level students were also very successful. This year saw our first student, Sophie Fenton, heading off to Cambridge to study International Relations and Politics. 98% of our students will be attending university with a quarter going to top Russell Group universities. Overall 78% achieved A*-C grades.
This year we are very excited to launch our first BTEC in Business Studies. We will be increasing the choice of BTEC subjects in 2018 to ensure suitable pathways are available for all students.
This term we are delighted to welcome 20 new staff - We wish all of our staff every happiness in their new roles.

I’m sure you will join me in wishing Afoma Mbanefo, Deputy Head of Science, a speedy recovery from her double knee operation. She hopes to return later this term. Her classes will be covered by Nathan Eccles in the meantime.
Key dates can be found in the calendar on our website. Reminders will be advertised, as always, in the Christ’s Chronicles sent to you each Friday. Please ensure we have your correct email and phone details to ensure you receive these and any future school communications.
Finally, I am sure that you will want to join me in congratulating Tom Smith on his marriage to Marianne.
Can I also take this opportunity to remind you that we expect all students to be dressed properly in the normal school uniform at all times; please refer to our website if you are in any doubt about the correct uniform as this gives details of our expectations including appropriate trousers and skirts. Students not in full school uniform will be sent home to rectify this; there should be no excuse after a summer holiday. Uniform should be worn properly with pride from home to school and from school to home.
It promises to be another very busy and exciting year ahead and we look forward to working with you to realise the potential of all our students.
And finally, please remember you can keep up to date with all our great achievements and activities via the school’s very active Twitter @christs_school and Instagram accounts, and our Facebook page. Give us a ‘like’ and a ‘follow!’
Yours faithfully
Mrs Helen Dixon
