CHRIST'S SUMMER SCHOOL
Following the Covid pandemic and its impact on children's educational progress and mental health, the Department for Education made available funding for schools to run additional Summer Schools during the 2021 summer break, Christ's school took advantage of the funding available to offer all new year 7 students joining the school in September 2012 the opportunity to attend a 5 day course with an academic focus, with the aim of supporting attending pupils to make up for some of their missed education.
The Summer school took place between 9th and 13th August 2021. 180 year 6 students who had accepted a place at the school for September 2021 were invited to attend. In total 99 students attended on at least one day with an average of 86 students attending on each of the 5 days.
The programme offered students an acclimatisation tour of the school on arrival on the first day and then focussed on subject support for core subjects, specifically Maths and English, every morning. In addition there were PE sessions and a sports afternoon, Art and Drama sessions and team building sessions. An orienteering trip to Richmond park was also organised. Catering facilities were provided throughout the week.
The summer school was staffed by Qualified Teaching staff from Christ's school, together with a number of pastoral support, administration and SEND staff from the school.
The total cost of providing the Summer school was £20110.05 of which:
£13911.16 - Teaching staff
£2187.97 - Education support staff
£1774.72 - SEN classroom assistants
£674.77 - Administrative Staff
£805.03- catering provision
