Chemistry
Chemistry is about everything. It is the central science that explains how the world around us works. It enables us to see patterns in the myriads of chemical reactions that occur in nature.
Course Summary
AQA A-Level Chemistry provides students with a deep understanding of chemical principles while developing their analytical, practical, and problem-solving skills. The course covers essential topics for further study in science-related fields such as medicine, engineering, and environmental science. It is divided into three main areas: Physical Chemistry, which includes atomic structure, bonding, energetics, kinetics, equilibria, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry; Inorganic Chemistry, covering periodicity, Group 2 and Group 7 elements, transition metals, and reactions of ions in aqueous solutions; and Organic Chemistry, which explores alkanes, alkenes, arenes, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, amines, amino acids, proteins, polymers, organic synthesis, and analytical techniques like NMR and chromatography.
Assessments:
Regular end of topic and landmark assessments will be carried out throughout the year to assess student progress.
At the end of year 13 there will be three written exams:
Paper 1 (Physical and Inorganic Chemistry, 35%), Paper 2 (Physical and Organic Chemistry, 35%), and Paper 3 (Practical skills, data analysis, and synoptic questions, 30%).
